    September is full of additions and changes as we prep for the approaching fall season!  An advanced yoga class, a fresh approach to fitness complimented by motivated new instructors, and a program for people looking for climbing partners, are all on the horizon as we get geared up for the cooler months.

    NEW YOGA CLASS! Advanced Yoga
    Mondays, 4:00p-5:30p taught by Michelle Anderson

    This class is for students with an existing intermediate or advanced yoga practice who wish to challenge themselves physically, learn sanskrit chants, and further their exploration of breathing and meditation.  Each class will include themed postures of all types, a detailed pranayama, chanting, or meditation practice, and savasana.

    THE ROPE UP
    Looking for new climbing partners? Excited to learn from fellow climbers? Join us for The Rope Up! There is no charge and it's a great way to expand your climbing experience!
    Starting in October, we are offering a facilitated group 3 times a week for climbers who range from beginning to intermediate and are excited to meet up with new people. Stay tuned for more details...

    favorite instructors with new classes!

    For the month of August, some of your favorite instructors have added more classes! Heath from Core Essentials and Brent from Vinyasa Yoga will be teaching more so you have a greater opportunity to enjoy their excellent classes. Additionally, we have just added Gary Gianetti to our roster so if you're looking for an energized cycling class, come to Movement on Thursday mornings at 6:30a!
    Also, we are very excited to welcome Mary-Laurence Bevington as our new Yoga Director!
    Read on for full details and keep an eye out for more advanced yoga, group cycling, and gritty fitness classes in the coming months!

    Classes with New Instructors:

    If you enjoy Heath Croll's Wednesday night Core Essentials class, he will also be teaching Sports Conditioning (Tuesdays 6:45p to 7:30p), and Blast Cardio (Fridays 11:00a to 11:30a) and Blast Abs (Fridays 11:45a to 11:50a).

    Also, Brent Miller, who teaches the popular Saturday Vinyasa class, will be teaching the Vinyasa Yoga on Thursday evening (6:15p to 7:30p).

    Lastly, we are excited to add Gary Gianetti as a new fitness and cycling instructor.  He teaches high energy cycling classes that are sure to get you going in the morning (Thursdays 6:30a - 7:15a).  He also has years of experience with functional fitness and he is excited to bring a new and fresh dynamic to the fitness department!

    New Yoga Director!
    We also are excited to announce our own Mary-Laurence Bevington as our new Yoga Director.

    We are very proud to have such a long-time member of the Boulder yoga community directing our yoga program.  Mary-Laurence earned a Master in Fine Arts Theatre at Naropa University and holds certificates in Body Knowledge (yoga, Pilates, and laying on of hands with Lara Kolesar), and massage therapy (Institute of Psycho Structural Balancing). She also has been involved with Movement since we opened the doors. We welcome her years of experience and practice and hope that you will enjoy her influence!

    acroyoga + slacklining workshop

    THIS SATURDAY, JULY 17th, Movement will be offering two workshops that combine the skills of both slacklining and AcroYoga. These workshops accommodate all ages and there are still a few spots available! Read on for more information and sign up today!

    The balance needed to perform basic slackline poses such as line kneeling, arm balancing, standing and lying on your back are reinforced and assisted by AcroYoga poses!

    1st Workshop--Intro to Slacklining and AcroYoga

    Encompass the basic poses of line-kneeling, sitting, arm balancing, standing and lying on your back, while also using AcroYoga poses and counter-balance to develop the necessary balance for each form through partner acrobatics and balances.  No partner required!

    Time: 12:30p-2:30p
    Cost: $25 Members--$35 Non-members (includes reduced daypass)
    $15 Youth Member/$25 Youth Non-Member (18 and under)

    2nd Workshop--Backbends and Inversions

    This workshop transitions to more advanced poses-backbends, inversions, transitions (turning while on the line, sit to stand, spinning across the line) in conjunction with more advanced AcroYoga poses and transitions.        Pre-requisite: 1st workshop or with instructors permission.

    aero yoga summer series

    Movement is one of the few fitness facilities in town that offers guests the chance to use Om Gyms to explore their yoga practice. Due to great success in our June Aero Yoga Series, we are offering the Series in July as well!     Come fly with us in this playful experience of Aero Yoga!  Build your flight skills through solo practice, partner yoga and introductory sling work.  Increase strength and flexibility, experience new dimensions of your yoga practice and decompress with therapeutic Thai Massage.  Explore your inherent potential and gain new perspective from turning your world upside down!  Open to anyone with a basic yoga foundation and the ability to practice handstand using the wall.  Come by yourself or bring a friend!

    The series will be held on three consecutive Fridays starting on July 9th.  We ask that you register for all three in order to participate in the class series.

    competition a success!

    What an awesome event! We had 150 competitors and a total of close to 600 people join us this past weekend for USA Climbing's SCS Divisional Championship.

    AND all 4 of our very own Team Sik Bird competitors that participated placed high enough to receive invitations to the National Championships in Atlanta next month! GO TEAM!

    scs youth divisional championship

    All the excitement for the SCS Division 2 Championship is just a few days away! This weekend, the top 150 youth climbers from our division will compete for an invitation to the SCS National Championship in July. Click here for the FULL SCHEDULE including stacking.

    What this means for Movement members and guests:
    Wednesday, June 9th -- Setting begins on the left side of the Gray Wall and will be closed to public use.
    Thursday, June 10th -- Setting begins on the rest of the Gray Wall and Speed wall and both will be closed to public use.  The rest of the brown walls will be open through Friday for normal business.

    **The gym will be closed on Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th but we encourage you to come watch or volunteer.**

    All climbing and normal class schedules will resume on Monday, June 14th.

    We hope that you share in our excitement about hosting this event and will be able to attend. If you have never participated in a event like this, it is a fun,high energy competition that is great to be a part of.

    On Monday, May 24th at 7:00, we will have part 3 of our series on Injury Prevention.  The focus of this clinic will be on the hands and joints.  Many climbers suffer from nagging tendon issues that stem from the amount of stress that we place on our hands/ joints.  The most common cause of this is over use and/or strain to the tendons and ligaments.

    Come meet with our knowledgeable personal trainers to learn how to prevent these common ailments from happening to you!

    There is no charge for this clinic and anyone may join.

    moving meditation class series

    This June, Movement's yoga teacher, Mary-Laurence Bevington, will be teaching a Moving Meditation 4-part Class Series. There is NO CHARGE for Members, and Guests are invited to attend for just $40(for a total of 4 classes, and each includes a reduced day pass).

    This inspiring class series offers four practices: meditation, movement, breath, and sound. Center your mind through meditation and chanting, open your whole body through Hatha yoga postures, and cleanse and purify through pranayama (breath) practices. Mary-Laurence will also provide guidance for developing a daily practice routine. This class series is for adults with all levels of yoga and meditation experience.

    These classes will be held every Thursday in June from 4:30 - 5:30p. Priority will be given to those who can commit to all 4 classes.

    On Monday, April 26th, Movement will host the second clinic of our THREE PART INJURY PREVENTION CLINIC SERIES that focuses on common climbing injuries and the best way to prevent them, so that you stay at your peak performance. There is NO CHARGE for these clinics, but sign up with the front desk is required.

    DID YOU KNOW? Climbing injuries have increased 63% from 1990 to 2007. The majority of non-fall related injuries are the result of improper technique and overuse of certain tendons and ligaments.

    THIS WEEKEND Movement is hosting the AERO YOGA WORKSHOP SERIES! On April 23rd and 24th, Emily Seymour and Yuki Tsuji-Hoening will be teaching the fundamentals of flying!

    Aero Yoga is a new, fun, and innovative practice that is guaranteed to provide a fresh perspective on yoga.

    youth summer camps

    Movement Climbing + Fitness: Boulder, CO

    What better way to spend some time this summer than at one of Movement's Summer Youth Camps? Your child will receive instruction from excellent climbing and strength coaches and will have quality time with their friends.

    Each five day session will focus on age-appropriate rock climbing techniques, skills and safety, as well as R.A.M.P. (Reaching Athletes' Maximum Potential). RAMP is a program designed to equip young athletes with the skills to propel their sporting activities to the next level, all in a fun and safe environment.

    The camps run in one week increments, Monday through Friday, from 8:30a - 12:00p. The cost is $265 per student and includes a camp t-shirt and a day pass for a parent!
    The sessions are as follows:

    JUNE 14 - 18: 6 - 9 year olds
    JUNE 21 - 25: 10 - 13 year olds
    JULY 12 - 16: 6 - 9 year olds
    JULY 26 - 20: 10 - 13 year olds

    DID YOU KNOW? Climbing injuries have increased 63% from 1990 to 2007. The majority of non-fall related injuries are the result of improper technique and overuse of certain tendons and ligaments.

    Movement is hosting a THREE PART INJURY PREVENTION CLINIC SERIES that focuses on common climbing injuries and the best way to prevent them, so that you stay at your peak performance.
    There is NO CHARGE for these clinics but sign up at the front desk is required.

    Join us on Saturday, March 13th from 12:30p - 2:30p for a POWER THERAPEUTIC YOGA WORKSHOP! Brent Miller is teaching, and will take an in-depth look at the relationship between unlocking your shoulders and tapping into your core's true potential. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE RED CROSS TO BENEFIT HAITI!

    This workshop provides a greater understanding of anatomy and alignment as well as the therapeutic tools necessary to maximize the health and power of your shoulders. With this heightened sense of shoulder awareness, we are then able to access our core with greater intelligence and ferocity.

    Brent's teaching style incorporates therapeutic alignment principles, conscious breathing, and rock music. He teaches a powerful flowing class geared towards athletic individuals who are interested in optimizing their physical potential.

    Cost to Movement Members: $5 donation (minimum)
    Cost to Non-Members: $5 donation (minimum) plus a $10 reduced day fee

    Movement Climbing + Fitness: Boulder, CO

    By popular demand, Movement is adding many more classes to the calendar for the months of February and March! By adding 14 classes to the schedule, we are bringing the total offering of yoga, cycling, fitness, climbing and strength conditioning classes to well over 60!

    Looking to strengthen specific areas in order to better your climbing? Dave Wahl of renowned Athletik Spesifik is joining us on Mondays and Tuesdays to help climbers reach their goals. Read more here.

    Not enough Cycling? We have added THREE cycling classes to the schedule! In addition to all of our other classes, you can also now join us on Monday evening (a second class!) or Tuesday morning (also a second class!) for Group Cycling. And if you want a real challenge, come check out the Advanced Group Cycling on Sunday mornings!

    Want more yoga? Come to Gentle Yoga on Sunday afternoons at 4:00p to round out your weekend and prepare for the week ahead!

    And let's not forget about Fitness! We will now have Pilates on Sunday in addition to several new classes during the week.

    It is competition season! Movement would like to wish TEAM SIK BIRD all the best this weekend at the ABS Regional Championships and next weekend at the SCS Open National Championships!

    The top competitors from the American Bouldering Series (ABS) Regional Championships this weekend will have an invitation to compete at the ABS National Championships, to be held the weekend of February 13th in Virginia.

    Those competing in the SCS Open National Championships will be vying for the title!

    Team Sik Bird holds a great deal of talent across the age categories, so you can expect a great showing. Check back here after the events for results!

    R.A.M.P.: Reaching Athletes' Maximum Potential

    Heath Croll, the Youth Fitness Specialist at Movement, is starting his Advanced Youth Fitness Program - R.A.M.P. - in January!

    R.A.M.P. is a multi-faceted program that will equip your young athlete (or soon-to-be athlete) with the best possible techniques, skills and movement to propel their sporting activities to the next level while arming them with the tools to help prevent injury - all with a fun, yet straightforward approach.

    Heath has worked with multiple schools around Boulder and has successfully trained athletes in Colorado and on the East Coast to reach their maximum potential. He has a B.S. in health and Physical Education and a Minor in Coaching. He is also a Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist, as awarded by the National Academy of Sports. Additionally, via the International Youth Conditioning Association, he is a Youth Conditioning Specialist.

    All classes are held twice a week and are geared towards youth ages 6 to 19 - click here for full information!

    Monday, Nov 30th will launch our Movement Mamas Group! Join other mothers looking for friendship and fitness. We will meet every Monday from 11a - 1p to take yoga, climb and do group fitness classes while our children are in Movement's childcare: Creations Playspace.

    The cost is free to members and only $12 for non-members! No pre-registration is required so just show up and join us!
    Children are $5 per hour per child in Creations Playspace.

    No experience is necessary and each Monday will be facilitated based on the group's needs. With an already great group of mothers working out here at Movement, we are excited to offer an organized meeting time each week so we can all meet new folks and get a great workout!
